About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Electrical Engineer with proven technical and leadership experience to join our Operations and Maintenance (O&M) team - Overwatch™. The ideal candidate will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and sustainability of products like our battery energy storage systems (BESS) and flywheel energy storage systems (FESS). This position involves leading a team of engineers, performing remote and in-field troubleshooting, system performance analysis, and implementation of maintenance strategies to maximize asset up-time and performance.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the escalation point to actively troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical, performance and safety issues by engaging hands-on in the field as well as remotely, ensuring a deep understanding of system operations and real-world challenges.
- Conduct root cause analysis of equipment failures and system disruptions, lead post-mortem reviews to identify lessons learned, and implement preventive measures and actionable solutions to enhance system reliability and prevent recurrence.
- Utilize monitoring tools and asset telemetry to identify inefficiencies and predict failures before they occur.
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers to design, triage, and resolve system electrical, performance, and safety faults.
- Collaborate across departments—including design, construction, and operations—to ensure optimal system performance and seamless upgrades.
- Provide input to strategic direction on electrical system improvements, fault resolution, and preventative maintenance planning.
- Assist in the training and upskilling of the Overwatch™ team on new tools, technologies, and industry advancements.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Develop and update technical documentation, including electrical schematics, operational procedures, and incident reports.
- Provide regular reports and performance updates to senior leadership, highlighting key trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably in energy storage, power systems, or renewable energy.
- 1+ year of experience leading a technical team, with a track record of mentoring, guiding, and driving results.
- Deep understanding of power systems, grid connections, energy distribution, power management, and storage technologies.
- Hands-on experience with electrical troubleshooting, maintenance, and system optimization.
- Proficiency in using power SCADA systems, diagnostic tools, and data analysis software.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent.
- Certifications in safety standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA 70E) and renewable systems (e.g., NABCEP).
