In June 2021, David assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer at Vivint Smart Home, a publicly traded company recognized for its award-winning smart home solutions serving over two million customers. Under his guidance, Vivint was purchased by NRG in March 2023 for an enterprise value of $5.3 billion, highlighting his ability to significantly enhance company value and market position.
Before his CEO role at Vivint, David served nearly five years as the CEO of Vivint Solar, a leading full-service residential solar integrator. His leadership culminated in the company's sale to Sunrun for $5.4 billion in October 2020, underscoring his expertise in guiding companies through substantial growth phases and successful exits.

David's journey with Vivint began in an earlier role as Chief Operating Officer at Vivint Smart Home, where he was instrumental in managing the company's rapid expansion. His responsibilities spanned customer operations, human resources, field service, and supply chain, significantly improving operations and profitability during his tenure.

Prior to his impactful roles at Vivint, Bywater gained extensive experience at Affiliated Computer Services (ACS), a major BPO and ITO company. Over ten years, he managed several business units encompassing more than 60 companies and later served as an Executive Vice President and Corporate Officer at Xerox, where he was the COO of its $1.8 billion State Government Services Business. This division saw remarkable growth and transformation under his leadership.
David's background in strategic consulting began at Bain & Company, where as a senior manager, he focused on assisting global clients in the technology, transportation, and data information sectors to achieve their full economic and operational potential.
With a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Brigham Young University and an MBA from Harvard Business School, David is deeply involved in his alma maters, serving on the National Advisory Council and the President's Leadership Council at Brigham Young University. Additionally, he lends his expertise to various private equity-backed boards and provides advisory services to several CEOs.
